You do not have to be a certain age to experience common ailments such as headaches and stomachaches. Body pains are no different, it will affect you. Overworking your body will lead to soreness, and sitting all day will easily tire you once you start exerting effort again. However, there are ways to improve your body’s mobility, but it will take consistency and dedication.

We asked tutor Kina.C, a certified Fitness Coach, to guide you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle.

1. What are the common problem areas for people who are working from home?

“It’s usually their lower back and wrist. A lot tend to sit for hours and their body stays in one position for a long time without any stretching.”

2. Can you suggest a beginner workout routine?

“As a Fitness Professional, I highly recommend to start with bodyweight exercises first. Examples would be jumping jacks, planks, push ups, squats, lunges, and burpees. However, before starting any physical activity, be sure to consult your doctor first or talk to a fitness coach for a thorough assessment.”

3. What tips can you give to help keep oneself motivated in pursuing physical fitness?

“Do it for yourself and not for anyone or anything. Fads may fade, but if you strive to better yourself each day, that’s when it gets progressive and becomes a habit.”

4. What are the other things to take note of to maintain a healthy body?

“Physical activity is definitely one way to keep yourself healthy and fit, but nutrition, sleep, and stress play a big role as well. We need to focus on each of these areas to improve our well-being.”

As home-based tutors, we spend longer hours on the computer. Over time, we might feel numbness or pain on our neck, shoulder, wrist, and lower back. When that happens, it would be helpful to rest for a while and do some stretching to release tension from our body. Exercise can be very easy when done right. Start by listening to your body; knowing your own capabilities will definitely help. It’s a good idea to consult professionals so they can suggest effective routines specific to your fitness goals as well as give you the guidance that you may need as a beginner.

Being healthy and fit is not a trend nor is it measured by a complete exercise routine. It is a lifestyle. How you live plays a big part in pursuing physical fitness. Some of the basic things you might want to look into and modify are your diet and sleeping pattern. Eating clean will help fuel your body with the nutrients it needs. A nourished and well-rested body also helps you recover and improve your performance.

Doing it for yourself will bring out the best in you.
